Thinking Through Pedagogy for Primary and Early Years

'Thinking through Pedagogy : Primary and Early Years' was published by January 2011 by Learning Matters. It is an accessible text that encourages readers to consider deeply how young children learn and how teachers and other adults can best support their learning. Written for education students in the later years of their course, the text draws on research and practice to explore the challenges and opportunities involved, while helping to develop the reader's own critical thinking skills. The book begins by comparing different views of pedagogy, drawing on traditions in England and other countries, going on to explore children's development and the importance of culture and context. Readers are encouraged to think through how different aspects of pedagogy are interlinked, emphasising the attributes of successful learners, relationships and the learning environment. Practical guidance in areas such as planning and assessment and continuing professional development is offered. Details of how to order copies are on the Learning Matters/SAGE website http://www.learningmatters.co.uk/title.asp?myBid=869>.

Though written primarily for education students in the later years of their course, the text draws on research and practice and will be valuable for serving teachers and others who are keen to develop a deeper understanding of pedgaogy. Details of how to order copies are on the SAGE website.
